Just a friendly reminder for everyone to get out and vote! It is super important to do your civic duty, so exercise your right to vote, no matter who you vote for!
I stood in line for two hours at the early voting site but it is so worth it!
I'm off to a much needed vacation in New York tomorrow! My cousin Cathy is getting married on Saturday so its also a semi-family reunion. I'm super excited!
When I get back its just in time to celebrate my birthday and then next weekend JACK'S MANNEQUIN!!!!!
Ok so Thanks to Stephenie Meyer and her Twilight books I've found a new band, Jack's Mannequin! LOVE THEM! I'm going to see them in concert in Delray Beach the 18 of October! I can't pick a favorite song so I'll add these two so you can pick:
Since I've been reading the Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyers. I've decided to have a Vampire Movie Marathon at my house on Friday. We'll be eating Pizza, and drinking Bloody Mary's and Sangria!
We can't forget that Sunday HBO's new show TRUE BLOOD starts!
Ok so I've been hearing such good things about the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyers and I was hesitant to start reading the books. Mostly because its a YA series and I had way too much teenaged angst to deal with when I was a teen that I don't want to deal with it as an adult. But my friend Gina bought the books and her enthusiasm for them passed on to me. So I started Twilight on Sunday, very doubtful that I would like this book.
After my initial balking that the book was written in first person, I started to get into Bella's mind. Shes the main character and narrator for all who don't know. Well like I said I started the book on Sunday, and I finished it Monday night. Just in time to start New Moon, the second in the series.
Ok the book is full of teenage drama, but deep down its just a love story... And I'm a total romantic at heart.
So now I'm super excited because not only do I have more stuff to read, but the movie is coming out in Nov!!!!! And yes I'm sad, disappointed, and a little pissed that Harry Potter is now coming out in a year!!!!! But at least I'll have something cool to watch during the Thanksgiving Holiday and it doesn't hurt that Edward, the hero in the book is played by Robert Pattinson, who played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Song of you may recognize this from TV. I first heard it from the Liberty Mutual commercials.... Its by a group called Hem. and the song is called "Half Acre". Its beautiful!!!
I've always been a big fan of sports and the Olympics...Usually its Gymnastics that I love, but this year Swimming is my IT event! I feel as invested in the races as the swimmers! Last night i was up later than my usual Sunday night just so I could watch the Men's 4x100m freestyle relay. I was not disappointed! While the French were talking trash and claiming the gold, Jason Lezak snuck right in and stole it out from under them and obliterating the world record at the same time!
I was jumping up and down on my bed...
Michael Phelps, who lets face it, is the face of the US Olympic team this year, is thismuch closer to his goal of 8 golds! I am rooting for him!
Oh and who can ignore the Redeemed Team, I love basketball!!!!
I’ve been walking in the same way as I did Missing out the cracks in the pavement And tutting my heel and strutting my feet “Is there anything I can do for you dear? Is there anyone I can call?” “No and thank you, please Madam. I ain’t lost, just wandering”
Round my hometown Memories are fresh Round my hometown Ooh the people I’ve met Are the wonders of my world Are the wonders of my world Are the wonders of this world Are the wonders of my world
I like it in the city when the air is so thick and opaque I love to see everybody in short skirts, shorts and shades I like it in the city when two worlds collide You get the people and the government Everybody taking different sides
Shows that we ain’t gonna stand shit Shows that we are united Shows that we ain’t gonna take it Shows that we ain’t gonna stand shit Shows that we are united
Round my hometown Memories are fresh Round my hometown Ooh the people I’ve met
I got my copy on Monday and so far I'm still reading. Now mind you I love Suzanne Brockmann's books and I usually read any book in a day but I've been savoring this one. I usually speed read through them and then go back and read calmly, but not this one...
I'm 3/4s into Into the Fire and I'm on the edge of my seat. Its a wild ride but its soooo worth it...
I love it so far. The characters are great and I love how she is slowly but surely tying up loose ends... she is not the type of writer that will just write a book and then, its done, you never hear from the characters again... I like that, i like knowing that in the next book I'm gonna find out how so and so is dong... They feel like actual people I've met and talked to, and that is one of the biggest reasons I love Suzanne Brockmann...
Her books are full of suspense and drama, love and laughter, real issues such as politics and current events. Including the war that is currently in the forefront of our news. She includes cultural information and cultural issues. One of her characters even drives a Hybrid. People die in her books and its not the type of death that is pretty but death is part of life. Guns are part of her world, pain, and hunger. The point is her world is not perfect, and I like that. Our world isn't perfect.
I love how she incorporates so many issues in her books, issues that shouldn't be issues, like bi-racial couples and homosexual relationships. Love is Love, people, get over it. She deals with rape and hate, very realistically. While I don't know first hand about rape I feel that she does a good job explaining it and helping us recover from it while her characters learn to live. Her characters suffer and sometimes you don't think they will recover, and sometimes you know they won't, but real life is like that.
Hate on the other hand is something everyone has had to deal with. I'm a Hispanic woman, and I've felt hate's wrath, but Mrs. Brockmann shows that while good can triumph over hate, it usually comes with casualties . She doesn't give us false hope that hate can be stopped forever. It can't, but she shows us that it doesn't have to overcome us and that gives us hope...
I'm not the type of reader that likes the paranormal books, no vampire or psychic romances, (well expect for Jayne Castle). I usually like to stay grounded. I do like historical romances, but i think its mostly because I'm fascinated with that period of time....
So if you're ever in a book store and you spot a Suzanne Brockmann book, pick it up. You won't be disapointed.
This week has been a "Dave" week, I've been listening to my old Dave Matthews Cds. I love "Crash into Me" but I'm discovering "new" songs also.
Just so ppl in and around the South Florida area know, we are celebrating Earth Day April 22, and in celebration of that on Sunday April 20 EarthFest will be going on at Key Biscayne's Crandon Park.
Yesterday he said my eyes Were fading fast away I said well what do you expect You asked me not to stay and if it had all been for the best I wouldn't feel this way And he said
Oh he said it's crazy How love stays with me You know it hurts me Cause I don't wanna fight this war It's amazing to see me reading through this scene Of love and fear and apologies
My love is like a blanket That gets a little bit too warm sometimes I wanna wrap somebody in it Who can hold me in his arms Cause when it got a little too hot in there He was always stepping out for air and he froze Oh he froze
He said it's crazy How love stays with me You know it hurts me Cause I don't wanna fight this war It's amazing to see me reading through this scene Of love and fear and apologies
Yesterday he looked at me With a tear in his eye and said I'll always tell you you're my friend I hope i don't have to lie Cause it's clear you love another man I said you're damn right
And he said He said it's crazy How love stays with me You know it hurts me Cause I don't wanna fight this war It's amazing to see me reading through this scene Of love and fear and apologies He said it's crazy How love stays with me You know it hurts me That i didn't figure it out before And now it's too late for a soliloquy It's way too late for dignity It's time for apologies
Today i woke up and i found a text message from my best friend, Agustina. Her grandfather died. He had been sick for 10 years, at least, with Alzheimer's. It's sad... I remember when we were little and i used to hang out at her house, and her grandfather was always there. He was a sweet man. Ever since we finished high school I haven't been by her house all that much so i haven't really seen him, and since she got married 3 years ago, so I've been by her childhood home even less. But I'll never forget her grandfather, Don Barney.
This led me to think about my grandfather, who died October 20, 2002. 5 days after my 21st birthday. I have spent the entire day reminiscing of all the things we did. He used to take me to Target to buy a book and he would always give me money to buy him a Hersey's chocolate bar. To this day I have a Hersey's chocolate bar next to his picture. Silly I know, he won't be able to eat it, but if comforts me.
Please take the time today to think about people you've loved that have passed. Never forget them.
For Barney Chamorro and Uriel Herdocia, 2 great grandfathers....
This morning i had to drag myself out of bed. No matter how hard i try there is just no way for me to go to bed early... and i seem to always forget how tired i am in the morning when i go to bed late, i think to myself, "I'll just take a nap tomorrow..." hahahaha yeah right!
MY best friend in the whole wide world, Agustina, just had a baby.. ok so she had her in Jan, the 27 to be exact.. and here she is: Ma Agustina aka Teeny!
Last week our rubber bands started disappearing.. i went looking all over for them and i couldn't find them anywhere... Until i saw my boss, Ron, with a bouncy ball.. Which happened to be all our rubber bands...
it now weighs 10.2 ounces, it probably weighs a pound by now.. he takes rubber bands home with him so that he can add to it when he isn't at work. Crazy man!
