Twilight

Twilight!

Ok so I've been hearing such good things about the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyers and I was hesitant to start reading the books. Mostly because its a YA series and I had way too much teenaged angst to deal with when I was a teen that I don't want to deal with it as an adult. But my friend Gina bought the books and her enthusiasm for them passed on to me.
So I started Twilight on Sunday, very doubtful that I would like this book.

After my initial balking that the book was written in first person, I started to get into Bella's mind. Shes the main character and narrator for all who don't know.
Well like I said I started the book on Sunday, and I finished it Monday night. Just in time to start New Moon, the second in the series.

Ok the book is full of teenage drama, but deep down its just a love story... And I'm a total romantic at heart.

So now I'm super excited because not only do I have more stuff to read, but the movie is coming out in Nov!!!!!
And yes I'm sad, disappointed, and a little pissed that Harry Potter is now coming out in a year!!!!! But at least I'll have something cool to watch during the Thanksgiving Holiday and it doesn't hurt that Edward, the hero in the book is played by Robert Pattinson, who played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Olympics!

I've always been a big fan of sports and the Olympics...Usually its Gymnastics that I love, but this year Swimming is my IT event! I feel as invested in the races as the swimmers!
Last night i was up later than my usual Sunday night just so I could watch the Men's 4x100m freestyle relay. I was not disappointed! While the French were talking trash and claiming the gold, Jason Lezak snuck right in and stole it out from under them and obliterating the world record at the same time!

I was jumping up and down on my bed...

Michael Phelps, who lets face it, is the face of the US Olympic team this year, is thismuch closer to his goal of 8 golds! I am rooting for him!

Oh and who can ignore the Redeemed Team, I love basketball!!!!

GO TEAM USA!!!!

New Song to love!

This is a song that I heard on a rerun of One Tree Hill...
Its called Hometown Glory and its by ADELE...

Adele Lyrics - Hometown Glory Lyrics

I’ve been walking in the same way as I did
Missing out the cracks in the pavement
And tutting my heel and strutting my feet
“Is there anything I can do for you dear? Is there anyone I can call?”
“No and thank you, please Madam. I ain’t lost, just wandering”

Round my hometown
Memories are fresh
Round my hometown
Ooh the people I’ve met
Are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of this world
Are the wonders of my world

I like it in the city when the air is so thick and opaque
I love to see everybody in short skirts, shorts and shades
I like it in the city when two worlds collide
You get the people and the government
Everybody taking different sides

Shows that we ain’t gonna stand shit
Shows that we are united
Shows that we ain’t gonna take it
Shows that we ain’t gonna stand shit
Shows that we are united

Round my hometown
Memories are fresh
Round my hometown
Ooh the people I’ve met

Are the wonders of my world (4x)

Suzanne Brockmann's New Book is Out!!! INTO THE FIRE...

I got my copy on Monday and so far I'm still reading. Now mind you I love Suzanne Brockmann's books and I usually read any book in a day but I've been savoring this one. I usually speed read through them and then go back and read calmly, but not this one...
I'm 3/4s into Into the Fire and I'm on the edge of my seat. Its a wild ride but its soooo worth it...
I love it so far. The characters are great and I love how she is slowly but surely tying up loose ends... she is not the type of writer that will just write a book and then, its done, you never hear from the characters again... I like that, i like knowing that in the next book I'm gonna find out how so and so is dong... They feel like actual people I've met and talked to, and that is one of the biggest reasons I love Suzanne Brockmann...

Her books are full of suspense and drama, love and laughter, real issues such as politics and current events. Including the war that is currently in the forefront of our news. She includes cultural information and cultural issues. One of her characters even drives a Hybrid. People die in her books and its not the type of death that is pretty but death is part of life. Guns are part of her world, pain, and hunger. The point is her world is not perfect, and I like that. Our world isn't perfect.

I love how she incorporates so many issues in her books, issues that shouldn't be issues, like bi-racial couples and homosexual relationships. Love is Love, people, get over it. She deals with rape and hate, very realistically. While I don't know first hand about rape I feel that she does a good job explaining it and helping us recover from it while her characters learn to live. Her characters suffer and sometimes you don't think they will recover, and sometimes you know they won't, but real life is like that.
Hate on the other hand is something everyone has had to deal with. I'm a Hispanic woman, and I've felt hate's wrath, but Mrs. Brockmann shows that while good can triumph over hate, it usually comes with casualties . She doesn't give us false hope that hate can be stopped forever. It can't, but she shows us that it doesn't have to overcome us and that gives us hope...

I'm not the type of reader that likes the paranormal books, no vampire or psychic romances, (well expect for Jayne Castle). I usually like to stay grounded. I do like historical romances, but i think its mostly because I'm fascinated with that period of time....

So if you're ever in a book store and you spot a Suzanne Brockmann book, pick it up. You won't be disapointed.
